2025 Fall Wild Blue Dogs Hikes

Please note all hikes are subject to change based on weather conditions. Bring towels to cover car seats and to wipe off your dog.
Be sure to speak with the hike leaders if you have any questions on trail terrain and ability levels.

All hikes meet at the PARKING LOT.
WE WILL DRIVE TO THE TRAIL HEADS and carpooling is encouraged.
please bring water for yourself and your dog!

09/15

lam-wah-tah - [± 2.0 miles]

Description

This is a level trail through the Rabe Meadow which is just north of camp. It can be short or long depending on which trail loops you would like to take. We will walk from camp out through the entrance and loop around to end at the 4-H beach. There are restrooms located in the campground area which will be near the end of the hike. Leashes are required until we get to the meadow area. As this is the first group hike only dogs with great recall and interactions should be off leash when appropriate.

Leashes are required at all time due to local regulations.

WATER PLAY: Yes, we end the hike at the Nevada Beach Dog Beach and Our Camp Beach.

kiva beach - [± 1 mile]

Description

A favorite amongst both locals and visitors alike, this beach is at the mouth of Taylor Creek. We will start by foloowing the Rainbow Trail boardwalk through the aspen forest. Then the trail will wind through the forest to the shoreline. There are wonderful views from the vantage point. We will also have the chance to have a quick look at the Taylor Creek Stream Profile Chamber. Pups aren't allowed inside but its well worth a quick look.

Fallen Leaf Lake - [± 1.5 miles]

Description

This is an out-and-back primarily level hike with a few areas of uneven terrain. This beautiful hike will take you to the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake where the pups can play at the water’s edge. There are plenty of downed trees for pups to “parkour” on. There is also the option to extend the hike by an additional 0.5 miles for those who want to walk along the water’s edge to the lake’s dam.

Van Sickle - bi-state park - [± 2.5 miles]

Description

This is a loop hike that is approximately 2.5 miles. There are 2 rock outcroppings which allow for wonderful pictures with the lake in the background. There is a portion of the longer trail with a small waterfall and creek. The uphill portion is moderate and there are restrooms at the trailhead.

Eagle Falls - [± 1.8 mile]

Description

The Eagle Lake Trail is an out and back trail that involves a steady climb (about 450 feet) past the falls up to the peaceful glacial lake. There are sections of rocky terrain. Parking is very limited so try to carpool if possible.  There is a $5 per car fee which your leader will take care of and you will also have to obtain a free desolation wilderness permit at the trailhead.

Trout Creek - [± 1 miles]

Description

This is an out-and-back hike that strolls along the banks of Trout Creek, one of the 63 streams flowing into Lake Tahoe. It is an easy hike through a beautiful meadow.

Castle Rock - [± 3.9 mile]

Description

One of our more chgallenging hikes, this is an out-and-back hike with portions of rocky terrain. It is moderately challenging with very good views of Lake Tahoe from above. Elevation change is approximately 570 feet and it takes about an hour and a half to two hours to complete, so clear your afternoon schedule to enjoy this wonderful hike. There are restrooms at the trailhead.

Burke Creek - [± 2.5 mile]

Description

Close to camp, this is a pleasant hike through the forest along portions of Burke Creek and a bike trail. The terrain is fair to moderate. Restrooms are located at the parking area.

Zephyr Cove - [± 1.0 mile]

Description

This is a level trail along the shoreline at Zephyr Cove. It is a fantastic water play area. Restrooms are available at the Zephyr Cove Resort. Park at the library. We will cross Hwy 50 for this hike.

Skunk Harbor - [± 2.0 miles]

Description

A special treat! This a 2.8 mile out-and-back trail. You will walk down a USFS access road to the secluded shoreline and a historical stone building from the 1920s. This area can only be accessed from the hiking trail or a boat. The way back is all uphill. There are no restrooms or trash bins so be prepared. Feel free to bring a towel and a bathing suit to cool off and take a swim!

If you missed it on Tuesday, we are going again. This will be a shortened version for those that would like to be back for the 11:15 class. We will park at the upper trailhead parking area. The uphill portion is moderate and there are restrooms at the trailhead.

Round Hill Going Up (Hard) - [± 2 miles]

Description

This trail takes you to the top of Round Hill which is located north of the 4-H camp. It is a short hike with portions of fairly steep uphill to the top (breather breaks will be taken). The view from the top is wonderful with a great view of the 4-H camp. There is also the option to then do the lower portion of the hike along the Marla Bay southern shoreline. There are no restrooms or water so be prepared.

Round Hill Going Around (Easy) - [± 1.5 miles]

Description

This trail takes you along the base of Round Hill and along the southern shoreline of Marla Bay. We will also go through the old abandoned Round HIll Pines resort area.   It is a short hike with portions of uneven terrain and also along the bike trail. There is an area where pups can get to the water but its pretty steep for us humans. There are no restrooms or water so be prepared.  This hike option will have you back at camp for the 4pm class.
